Mat and Reformer Pilates

Pilates exercises are designed to train the body's "powerhouse" or CORE - the abdomen, lower back, hips and buttocks. Pilates is an exercise approach to stabilizing your core and strengthening your body that may help build flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips, and back.

Pilates work emphasizes spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, and improving balance and coordination while developing a span core or center. Pilates' allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginning to advanced and the intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises Premier Rehab Physical Therapy offers MAT AND REFORMER Pilates to design your specific needs from beginning to advanced levels of strength.

The PILATES REFORMER uses resistance created by the pulley and spring system of the REFORMER apparatus and can provide a more challenging workout throughout a larger range of motion.

Principles of Pilates exercise include:

  • Concentration

  • Control

  • Centering

  • Flow or efficiency of movement

  • Precision

  • Breathing

  • Powerhouse Core Control

MAT or REFORMER PILATES can be incorporated into your physical therapy program as appropriate with guidance by your physical therapist.
